A fairly high percentage of Plucky users seem to enjoy video games.

Based on my experience, I would wager that porn addiction and game addiction have a rather high correlation coefficient. One reasonable explanation for this might be that porn and games both offer an alternate reality, an escape from real life, and that a major source of the appeal of both is that those who frequently consume them are also those who frequently want to escape from reality.

Does this imply that playing video games can be a sort of nicotine patch, helping the would-be porn quitter quit? I don’t think so. I think the majority of people who play games and consume porn against the judgment of their better self would do well to quit both and to take up healthier activities, ideally physical ones, and not ones in front of a screen.

Are videos games necessarily bad? They don’t strike me as particuarly healthy, but I won’t here attempt to make the case that they are fundamentally bad for people. I know several people enjoy playing video games and who don’t have problems with porn.

To those who use porn or video games as a means of escape, I’ll risk saying this: Life contains pain. Get used to it. The sooner you accept this and stop running from the pain, the more full and real your life will be.
